Nashville Beauty Portrait Session: Leia
I met Leia through her husband, who I happened to meet at a local networking event. He showed her my work and soon after she reached out to book her own Beauty Portrait Session. One of the things that stood out to me immediately was that Leia was a new mother and wanted to celebrate herself. I absolutely love that and wish more women scheduled portrait sessions to celebrate their own beauty.
During our consultation, we talked comfortably about the way life changes after baby. There are a lot of wonderful changes that happen. Your heart expands daily as you grow this little person inside your womb and the moment you first meet them is incomparable to any other experience. Seeing them interact with you and their environment, learning new things daily.
Along with all the wonderful changes that come into a new mother’s life is the changes to our bodies. I felt amazing during most of my pregnancies (minus the nausea in the first trimester and the back aches the last few weeks). But even for me, there was a shift that happened to my body after my children were born and it took me some time to come to accept and love my new body. It went beyond weight loss and had more to do with understanding how my body now served another purpose.
On the one hand, I was in awe of the fact that my body had created and nurtured these little humans. On the other hand, I found my proportions had changed. Whereas before I could easily figure out what kinds of cuts flattered my body, I felt a little lost when shopping. Besides, the first several months were about keeping this little person alive and well. Like many moms, that meant I put my self care on the back burner. I don’t know about you, but I found it hard to “sleep when baby sleeps.”
So when Leia came to me and wanted to a portrait session just to pamper herself, I nearly jumped for joy! Mani pedis are great forms of self care, but personally the thing I love about a portrait session is that you will have these photos forever. You will see them every day and remind yourself of how you are a phenomenal woman.
I think we struck a great balance between classy beauty portraits, fun glam and a little hint of sexy.

By the time we got to the glamorous gown, we were in full swing and having a blast. My clients always love wearing these beautiful handmade tulle skirts and swishing around like they’re little princesses again.
No session is complete without a dramatic fabric toss.
This is one of my favorites. I love the way the background brings in a classic warm tone and the super feminine purple pleats. Leia definitely scored an A+ with her wardrobe choices!
Then we switched it up to include some soft airy backlight photos.
This red dress had some red carpet appeal. So I wanted to make sure we captured the silhouette with a soft airy backlit portrait and then took it up a notch to make it more Vogue magazine worthy with the ladder.

All in all, we had a BLAST. Leia was super fun and easy going. Glitter? Sure. Fabric tosses? Let’s go for it. Want to incorporate a ladder and see if we can make you look like a celeb? Yes yes yes. Her personality shines through in each of these portraits and I know her husband, baby and extended family will enjoy these for generations.
At her Ordering Session, Leia opted for a Folio box along with a framed print (she chose the glitter photo).
