Nashville Makeover Portrait with Ashley
Beauty Makeover Portrait Sessions are by far my favorite type of sessions to photograph in my Nashville studio. Ever since my very first photography class years ago, I found myself photographing women – first friends, then friends of friends and then finally strangers that had found my work and connected to it. I think most every woman at some point in her life struggles with conflicting messages of beauty and value. Sometimes we get caught up in defining our self worth using external factors – societal standards of beauty, our job titles, etc. etc.
Mainstream media messages push the idea that perfection equals beauty, never mind that the so called perfection we see on magazines and on TV are often unattainable even by celebrities. We need to remember that there is makeup, lighting and lots of retouching involved in each and every one of those scenarios. What I always hope to achieve in my Beauty Makeover Sessions is to make a realistic version of that unattainable actually attainable for the every day woman.
Glamour isn’t necessary ball gowns and sparkly outfits. Glamour is about how you carry yourself and how you feel about yourself. You can be glamorous in a pair of jeans and a white tee. At least, that’s what I think!
Why can’t you have beautiful portraits that still show who you are while still looking like you walked off the pages of a magazine? You can and you should – you deserve beautiful, timeless portraits that remind you everyday that you are indeed, beautiful. Just as importantly, your family and loved ones deserve to have photographs of you – trust me, they will cherish it. To view some photos of every day woman that have come through my studio to experience a makeover portrait session to celebrate their beauty, head on over to my Before and After Gallery.
While I am able to show you the external transformation my clients experience in one of my sessions, what I have a harder time showing you is the internal transformation that occurs. For some it happens almost immediately, while they are in hair and makeup. I can sense a boost of confidence right away. For most though, it happens some time during the session while we’re shooting.
It is a very personal dynamic – just me and you – and in that space, I can always feel that subtle shift that happens. Expressions get deeper, posing gets more natural and confident, smiles get broader. I’m not even sure my clients realize it until much later. The best part is, it is a transformation that continues to develop and grow even after they’ve left the studio. I’ve run into clients months later only to find an incredibly confident, upbeat and glowing woman in front of me. THAT is what I live for and THAT is why I do what I do.
Today, I am sharing photos from my shoot with Ashley. I mixed it up a bit in this session and did a few old Hollywood style glamour lighting. She carried the look beautifully and I love how they turned out. I’ll be adding these into my shoots more often 🙂
And the pink tutu returns 🙂 If you can’t tell yet, I am obsessed with it and keep finding new ways to incorporate it. My clients love it because is just pure fun.
And we can end this post with a quieter, softer moment. One of my favorites from this shoot.
