I have been talking about this dressing room for months and I can finally share it with you. When we first moved into this house, we had a room that we thought we’d keep for out of town guests. We actually did use it for out of town guests – all of three times. Usually people were just passing through or already had a hotel booked. Either way, the room wasn’t really being used much during the rest of the time and I got this crazy idea that perhaps I could transform it into a lovely dressing room for clients to get their hair and makeup done, and for them to have a private area to change instead of using the restroom. Plus, how can you not feel pampered and relaxed in this room! That is all part of the master plan – I want you to have the most incredible experience when you choose to be photographed in my studio. That experience begins before you even step foot in the door – it begins when we meet for the first time to plan your dream photo shoot. When you come in on the day of your session, I want you to shed away all your worries, fears and insecurities and just….relax.

So here it is folks! I wanted to make if feel fun and feminine while still keeping it bright and airy.

These are some of the fun wardrobe items I have available for clients to use in addition to whatever wardrobe items they bring as well. My favorite pieces include tulle skirts and the beaded bra top.

I have collected these beautiful Middle Eastern perfume bottles for a few years now. A few came from my own purchases, several were given to me by my sister and I think at least one was a favor from a wedding.

The roses are real but preserved somehow. I bought them from Sav On Crafts online for my wedding and have kept them since. The flowers in the bowl are actually hair pieces that I add into shoots sometimes (like the one of Alyssa in the framed photograph).

A big picture view of the whole room, except the seating area with the little dressing table.  I totally scored on that teal cart in the corner.

A few more perfume bottles that I’ve had laying around that just happened to match the design idea perfectly. The framed photos behind this set are from our honeymoon trip to Spain and Paris. The lavender photograph is from some fields in the Garden of Tuileries.

When all the owls started popping up in jewelry and home decor, I wasn’t really on board. But this guy was really hard to resist, he’s just too adorable.  Other items include a beach scented candle to help clients relax and a small handmade Portuguese bowl for safety pins.

The boxes were a gift from my very sweet friend Iman, who is now living half way across the world with her husband and two beautiful daughters. The green jars look like they have dirt in them but I promise you they don’t! I  am obsessed with oud, it is a type of incense that my grandmother used to make. I love the smell and she is no longer alive, I have been collecting oud here and there in an attempt to finda few that get close to how amazing her’s was. Unlike the sticks of incense, you place these onto hot coals. It does get kind of smokey but the smell travels through the room and your home and lasts for a few days. My friend Rina found these in DC and sent them along to me. You may remember her from her gorgeous Indonesian wedding photos here.

A mix of magazines, including Vogue, Glamour and Professional Photographer. The box with the drawing of the dress is actually soap. SSo is the one with the map of Paris and the picture of the Eiffel Tower. I am aa sucker for beautiful packaging and couldn’t resist these.

Those were all the detail shots and this is how the shelf under the window turned out. I got a lot of ideas and inspiration from Pinterest. If you’d like to follow my pinnings, you can go here.
