No kitchen? No problem! I had the fun honor of creating Cathy’s personal branding photography session right here in my studio!
We explored what her business meant to her and created a mock kitchen for her photos right inside my photography studio!
Doesn’t she look like she could be on the cover of a modern-day cookbook?!
Personal Branding Photography in a Start-Up Business
If you’re a new business owner or starting up a new business, you might not think it’s the best time to have a personal branding photography session. But it’s quite the opposite.
To set yourself up for success, the perfect time to have professional photos taken is when you decide to start marketing online.
Whether you market your business on social media, build a website, or hand out business cards, a polished headshot can set you up for success (and help you stand out from your competitor).
Take Cathy, for example. While building her new business, she still has one foot in the corporate world. Her goal is to establish herself as a Personal Cooking Educator and potentially integrate a membership program down the line.
Because her website is still in progress, she knew that she needed to create a professional online presence that would attract her ideal client. So we planned her session with her final website design in mind.
Before her shoot, I worked closely with her website designer. This helped me get a better understanding of the kind of images she would need for the final product. It became a team effort and was so much fun!
Personal Branding Photography Isn’t Always On Location
Let’s state the obvious. Many people think of personal branding photography as being “on location,” in a coffee shop, and maybe in someone’s private office.
But so much has changed (for the better)!
Personal branding photos can be created in a photography studio and still feel authentic for each business owner. I’ve used the same shelves from this session in other branding shoots, and each one looks completely different. It just takes a little extra planning and creativity, which I’m always excited about!
Cathy’s mission is to teach people how to make wholesome and healthy meals at home. So we worked together to create a mock kitchen that felt like you were in her home kitchen.
Creating a Mock Kitchen in the Studio
To accommodate Cathy’s vision for branding photos, we used shelves I keep in my studio. We styled them with kitchen props and accessories Cathy provided. I created a board that looked like a kitchen counter and…VOILA!
We captured the essence of a stylized kitchen for her shoot.
This arrangement became a win-win situation because we didn’t need to spend extra cash renting a professional kitchen. Instead, we left the shoot with some crisp, bright, and colorful images, thanks to the lighting flexibility I had working in my photography space.
During her session, we had fun getting a mix of headshots, action shots, and a few close-ups of her chopping some vegetables. By providing a variety of images, she now has a library of professional photos to pull from.
She can use these photos in her social media marketing, on her website, and in the 20 places I listed in my previous blog post. Best of all, everything we created is evergreen marketing content, meaning it’s timeless and can be used for years!
Maintaining your vision will always be my priority for your personal branding photography.
Before Cathy’s session, we mapped out all her needs during her style and concept consultation. We dug deep into the nitty-gritty of what she wanted to leave her session with – images, sizes, orientations, and brand colors.
Once Cathy is ready to launch Cici’s Kitchen, she’ll have everything to bring that polished and professional touch to her website!
If you’re a business owner ready to start seeing your vision for your brand come to life, let’s get it done! I’d love nothing more than to capture you in your element.
