Just a second…

Second shooting is a great way to learn about the ups and downs of shooting a wedding. It is also a great way to learn how more experienced photographers problem solve and handle specific situations. Having a second shooter takes a little pressure off the main photographer. This is because though the main is getting all the super important shots and is very focused on the big idea but can’t be everywhere at once. The second is able to get different angles and looks which all adds up nicely in an album. A few weekends ago, I served as a second shooter for my new friend, Chris. Wow, what an experience! The wedding was gorgeous – outdoor beach wedding in Laguna. A couple of problems – out of nowhere, SoCal experienced a major heat wave. This particular day I think we hit the high 90’s and possible low 100’s. Chris had a sprained ankle and the venue literally had stairs EVERYWHERE. You couldn’t get from one place to another without taking the stairs. But Chris is a very dedicated photographer and he just worked through the pain. On top of it all, he managed to be kind and friendly and funny! The couple absolutely loved him and his work. I quickly saw how much they trusted his ideas and judgment. In addition, he was very kind and helpful to me – Chris kept checking up on me to see if I needed anything or had any questions. For me, it was really helpful to see another pro handle the ups and downs of photographing a wedding. I can’t wait to work with him again 🙂

Here are some of my favorite images from the wedding:
